Aiden Dybka

A native of Montreal, Aiden has been involved in various aspects of the horticultural industry for over 20 years, consistently working creatively and developing a distinctive body of work.

Aiden began working as a florist in Montreal’s diverse Plateau neighborhood. The introduction to the world of flowers inspired him to study horticulture at Niagara College where he emphasized in landscape design.

His approach to gardening has always been of an alternative nature, both in design and philosophy. In fact the title of his final thesis was “Gardening in cooperation with Nature Spirits”.

In 1990 Aiden relocated to the West Coast where he worked for Thomas Hobbs at Southlands Nursery. Considered one Canada’s finest nurseries, Southlands specializes in rare and unusual plants. Aiden was immersed in this botanical culture for seven years.

In 1998 Aiden and his Partner developed a new and exciting garden design business, The Garden Sanctuary - A Living Arts Company. The intention of this company is to create garden spaces that evoke a sense of well being and become portals to wonderment.

Aiden focuses on a very specific niche of the gardening market, wellness gardening. The notion of creating not only beautiful gardens in appearance, but gardens with personal or soulful meaning.

His approach to garden projects involves a special connection with the client. He understands that people need to feel content and inspired once they enter into a garden.

One of Aiden’s outstanding projects was a botanical exhibition at the Van Dusen Garden Show. The theme of the show was Passion. Aiden created a sensual tantra display. The exhibit was exotic and vibrant as sweet scents of the Indian sub-continent filled the air and floral offerings were made to the goddess Parvati and to Ganesha, deity of luck and good fortune. This display, along with several others over the years, earned him awards.

Aiden and his team offer a very dynamic style and are quite versatile in creating garden spaces that reflect a variety of themes. Some favorites include: Old World Charm, Bold & Contemporary, Transcendence of Wabi Sabi, Lush & Exotic, Mediterranean Mood, Rustic & Romantic, and the zaniness of West Coast Groove.
